friends of etbu

the following is from a student-written paper. All details are purely fictional.

People

The super class people consists of all people who are directly or indirectly associated with the university. We shall further divide the people super class into classes into faculty, friend, staff, and student (in alphabetical order).

Faculty

As you know, the faculty in the university is spread across many departments in nine schools. For the sake of the orientation, we have flattened the faculty structure. This means that the database shall make no distinction between full professors, associate professors, assistant professors, adjunct faculty members and so on.
We obtained our data from Academic Affairs which keeps a full record of faculty. However, we chose not to include the information as we do not need it.

Friend

The friend category is a general “community” category for well-wishers of the university as well as family members of our students, faculty, and staff. For the sake of simplicity of the 101 program and the associated systems analysis process, only those designated as primary and second contacts for students are included in the friend category.

Staff

Staff constitutes everyone on the university payroll except for faculty members. As with the faculty class, no distinction is made in this class. We heartily welcome all the help and support with the 101 program, regardless of the staff member’s title in the organizational charts. We obtained this information from Human Resources. Please contact Administration and Finance for more information.

Student

“A student forever” is a true quote but for our purposes, we shall include only a small subsection of current students who have elected to participate in the 101 program. Student information comes from the Registrar’s Office. We shall include all incoming students, freshmen or transfer in this category. We obtained this information from the admissions office.
While we debated with the issue of creating two subclasses of students, we decided that this was unnecessary. Students can be categorized by the number of hours they have completed by beginning of the semester and anyone who has completed 30 or more hours of college credit is no longer classified as a freshman and thus, no longer a prime focus of the 101 program for fall 2010. (Please consult the narrative for more on this issue.)
